The History Of High Farm Holiday Park

Two generations ago Joseph William Thompson had his sights set on emigrating to Australia as a “Ten Pound Pom”, but fate had different plans for him. Smitten by a local girl called Amy they decided to settle here at High Farm, beginning with just a few hens and a modest milk-round and they worked hard together to build a family home and small farm to pass onto the next generation.

Our parents, Alan and Edna, “took over the reins” nurturing the pedigree dairy herd that we grew up alongside, gradually learning from them how to look after both the livestock and farmland. As they eased themselves into retirement significant changes occurred in both the farming industry and our own personal circumstances so we could no longer continue the traditional farming practices. Instead, we embarked on a journey to breathe new life into the farm whilst maintaining our rural heritage and preserving the beauty of the local countryside.

We are proud to extend a warm welcome to you all from everyone here at High Farm Holiday Park.

Meet the Team

Hello I'm Jacky

Hi, I’m Jacky. My sister and I were born at High Farm, and I have lived and worked here for most of my life. As this project has developed, it has been wonderful to see the wildlife returning to and flourishing around the farm and holiday park, and I am determined to maintain and preserve this rural environment for our guests, as well as my family.

I am also a professional cake decorator, and I have enjoyed teaching sugar craft here on the farm for several years. My love of baking certainly comes in handy, making tasty treats for the cafe.

Hi I'm Glynn

Hi there, I’m Glynn. I am a joiner by trade and I have designed and project-managed the development of High Farm Holiday Park. Developing the site was always going to be a huge challenge, and at times it has really put my skills to the test, especially during the global pandemic.

The last few years have been a roller coaster, but I am delighted to be welcoming guests onto the site and seeing them enjoy everything that we have worked so hard to create.

Hello I'm Simon

Hi, I’m Simon. I share my wife’s love of nature and wildlife, and I’m a keen taster of her baking treats! I like to think my calm and gentle nature has had a steadying influence on our exciting new venture, and my years of experience as a pharmacy owner have provided some useful business knowledge for the number-crunching and “admin” of the holiday park.

As well as being firmly in charge of the spreadsheets, I like to support and join in whenever I can, whether that involves grass-cutting & strimming, setting up technical equipment, chasing pigs or dealing with the tax & VAT.

Hi I'm Amy

I’m Amy, and I would like to offer you a warm welcome to High Farm Holiday Park. I grew up on the farm with my sister Emily and family and have lived in the area all of my life, and I am now enjoying living back on the farm and raising my children here.

I currently work for the NHS as a midwife, and from my previous jobs, I have experience in supporting people and customer service. For the past couple of years, Glynn and I have welcomed guests to our two holiday cottages, and I get a buzz from helping visitors to get the most out of a visit to stunning County Durham.

I am looking forward to being involved in the running of our beautiful site and helping visitors to fall in love with the area we call home.
